Back in 1967 six miles off the coast of England, Sealand which visually looks like little more than an oil rig platform after a bad accident, began it's journey towards becoming a sovereign Principality. It may look like a ship wreck but the inspired, brilliant and probably slightly barmy (in the way the English are so good at) family that took it over established a bona fide principality.
Lord & Lady of SealandIt has its own currency, stamps, passports, ruling family the lot, and despite an attempted invasion by the British navy in 1968 (that failed rather shamingly), Sealand went on to become an internationally recognised Principality. So, mad as it may seem, just off the coast of the UK is a completely independent principality, and it's the Prince of Sealand who has decided he will grant the titles of Lord and Lady, and Baron and Baroness, on those that wish to buy them. We all know we'd make good Lords and Ladies (and of course Barons and Baronesses) it's just that we seldom get the chance to give it a go. Well now you can buy yourself a posh title without having to marry some old family that's probably German, or donate a fortune to the government just before the next honours list.
